Federal Elections
Statewide elections are held for congressmen and senators with the ballots coinciding with Presidential elections and then two years later with the mid-terms. The next one will be on 8th November 2022 where All 435 voting seats in the House of Representatives will be up for election and at least 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be up for election.
Presidential Elections
The President of the United States of America is elected every four years with the next date being Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The process for the 2024 election will begin in June 2023 with the caucuses and primaries. The function of the caucuses is to allow party members to hold meetings and debates about future candidates. Open votes are cast at the events on who they believe is the best choice.
In the primaries, the process of selecting the candidate happens on a state level using secret ballots. During September and October, all chosen party nominees participate in presidential debates. The US uses an Electoral College system, meaning voters are selecting an elector to act on their behalf. There are 538 electors across the states, each has one vote, a president needs 270 to be victorious.
